Distrust is an effective shield. Something that could hold back numbers of people without remorse, no matter how much of the truth was spoken. Whether it was out of fear or just an act of selfdefense, it ended up the same. Why Ademaris decided it was for the best to not believe him, was something he couldn't dare to understand nor tried to. They didn't have the time to discuss if she had to follow him and take his words without thinking it'd be lies. He just had to let her understand it was an endless discussion... but how? Not wanting to think about it too long, he rejected her decision to leave his hand in the open and get up herself. With as much gentleness as possible in his rush, he grabbed her hand and pulled her closer to him.
"It'd be enough to keep us alive. If not, I would've been dead a long time ago," he spoke, as he stepped forward and walked ahead. His footsteps were fast, but not too much so she could get along. Christian wouldn't want her to get left behind now they 'earned' their place on the most wanted list of Riverdale. He knew she wasn't happy about it either. Still, she smiled a little bit, which got him confused for a minute. Not knowing if she was laughing at him or just wanted to let him think she saw him as a normal person, he let his teeth sink into his lip. "No one'll be spared by the government. Not even you, as the daughter of the president." The title of her father made her important. Of course he understood why she wanted to head back, right into the direction of their biggest rivals. But now they all had the knowledge of their genes, they weren't safe anywhere. The fact they fled and fought against the soldiers, wouldn't make those things any better. They're fugitives now.
"They know enough. Once we ever get within their sight, they'll pull the trigger and it might be that one shot we can't defend ourselves from."
Safety was nowhere to be found. He still remained fearful, hearing those sounds of nature along with something he found to be footsteps of the army. Yet, Christian looked up to the sky for a minute. Admiring the stars that brightened their path through the woods, making him forget of the troubles for a couple of seconds. It was beautiful here, he thought, while he kept on walking. Peaceful, to be more clearly. Was that the one thing he had missed the most?
